Happy New Year!

As I have been working on my calendar for the year it has been overwhelming looking at the year to come as a whole.   All the to do lists are already piling up.  EEK!  It has lead me to reflect on the past year of my life and think about all that has transpired, the accomplishments, the new beginnings, the closed chapters.  Then I multiply that times the 14 members of Objective Clay and am astounded!  I don't want to list all the things here that have changed in our lives, the pictures will give you some idea. What I wanted to say with this post was "Happy 2014" ! I want to wish all our friends a wonderful year ahead, full of new adventures, big victories and small losses.

When I was putting together this little video, I was reminded that we are makers ( check out all those pots:).  This past year it has been too easy to put aside the making and  get lost in the business of ceramics and figuring out a path forward.  This morning I ran across this excerpt from a letter written in 1965 by  Sol Lewitt (b. 1928) in response to Eva Hesse (b.1936)  written no doubt  during a period of struggle and difficulty. It makes my list of things to work on for this year, a small pep talk to remind myself that I am a maker and to not worry so much about the things I have little control over!  Check it out.

“Just stop thinking, worrying, looking over your shoulder wondering, doubting, fearing, hurting, hoping for some easy way out, struggling, grasping,…Stop it and just DO!…

Don’t worry about cool, make your own uncool. Make your own, your own world. If you fear, make it work for you – draw & paint your fear and anxiety…

You must practice being stupid, dumb, unthinking, empty. Then you will be able to DO!…

Thanks for taking the time and bring it on 2014!
